Doll/Hard Surface Toy Repair

Here at Leith Dolls’ Hospital, our team of doll restorers work on all kinds of modern and antique dolls. Our doll repairs range from small repairs such as doll restringing and replacing doll eyes to reconstructing shattered porcelein dolls or rebuilding limbs. From sprucing up children’s favourites to antique doll restoration, no dolly is beyond repair at our doll repair shop.

Within our doll restoration team, we have specialists in plastic dolls, bisque, pot and porcelein dolls, composition dolls, soft bodied dolls and much more.

Our sympathetic doll repairs preserve the character and value of your doll. We will never do any doll repair without your consent, and we will never do anything that can’t be undone. We use period appropriate materials wherever possible.

Surface Clean

We give your dolly a full body scrub to remove years of grime.

Crack Fill & Repaint

We stabilise and glue any holes or cracks, fill them, sand until smooth, and paint to match the surrounding area.

Restring

Many older dolls have their limbs held together with elastic. We replace the elastic and make sure it is nice and tight.

New Cloth Body

We make a completely bespoke new cloth body to perfectly fit your doll’s dimensions, sewn up in the fabric of your choice.

Paint Touch Ups

For areas that don’t need filling or repair but the paint is worn. We mix paint individually for each doll for the perfect match.

We painstakingly reassemble all the broken pieces filling in any missing parts. Once reassembled, we sand to smooth everything out and then paint it to match the original.

We fit replacement eyelashes for a variety of dolls. For older dolls with wax eyelids, this includs replacing those too.

Glow Up

We all need a glow up sometimes! This is perfect for dolls who are structurally sound but they look a bit pale, sallow, or worn features. We can touch up their lips, cheeks, eyebrows, and fit new eyelashes. It can make a massive difference to the appearence of their face.

This doll had a large crack across her face and her original paint was crazing. We stabilised the crazed paint, filled the crack and then painted her to match her original colour. What a transformation!

This dolly’s crier was past the point of repair. We replaced it with a new one and now her owner can hear her voice for the first time in years.

These type of eyes are found in vinyl dolls. We remove the old ones and fit new ones in the same colour.

We refit fallen in eyes and repair any damage to the mechanism. When the eyes are missing we can source new ones.

We wash, detangle and smooth the hair before restyling the hair into a style of your choice. We can do classic up-dos, traditional doll curls, and anything imbetween!

Suitable for vinyl dolls where the hair is rooted into the head. We carefully hand sew new hair into the dolls to fill in patches of missing hair, or completely replace all the hair in cases where the original hair cannot be saved.

Hair Detangle & wash

We wash the hair, treat it to soften it and then detangle the hair. This doesn’t include styling.

We can clean doll clothing whether removable or fixed in place on the toy.

This beautiful bride was missing her wedding dress. Our doll couture department designed and made this stunning wedding dress.

Clothing wash

This dress was stained and discoloured but still in good condition. With some soaking and cleaning it looks good as new.
